In the shadow of a restless earth, America's Pacific Northwest trembles as Mount St. Helens unleashes a cataclysmic eruption, without warning. Ash, fire and fury rain from the sky choking cities, burying highways and crippling the country.

 

But St. Helens is only the beginning.

 

Across the Pacific, a greater terror stirs. Mount Fuji, Japan’s sacred giant rumbles toward a VEI 6 eruption. Graham Mercer, a nuclear scientist at the Hamaoka Nuclear Power Plant, fights to avert a meltdown as seismic shocks cripple the grid and spent fuel pools teeter on the edge of catastrophe. If the cooling systems fail radioactive waste will poison the globe.
